Account verification scams impersonate banks, social media platforms, streaming services, or online retailers to create panic around a supposed account problem. The message — delivered by email, SMS, or even direct message on the platform itself — claims your account will be locked, deactivated, or charged unless you verify your information within a short window.
The link leads to a convincing fake login page that captures your username, password, and often additional personal or payment information. The urgency is entirely manufactured.
Legitimate services do occasionally send account-related notifications, but they never ask you to re-enter all your details through an email link. Always navigate to services directly by typing the address in your browser, and use your password manager to confirm you're on the genuine site.
