Fake presale code scams exploit fans' eagerness to access tickets before general public on-sale. Scammers sell supposed presale codes through social media, fan forums, or dedicated websites, sometimes packaged with a paid "fan club" or "early access membership" signup fee. When fans attempt to use the code, it is rejected, already expired, or was never a real presale code at all, and by the time they discover this the legitimate presale window has often closed.
Some variations combine a real, generic presale code (which the scammer obtained free from an official promotional email) with a resale markup, selling something that costs nothing through official channels. Others invent codes entirely, relying on the fact that most fans will not learn a code is invalid until checkout, wasting valuable time during a narrow purchase window before tickets sell out.
Fans should only obtain presale codes from official artist, venue, or credit-card partner communications, and should be wary of any third party charging money for access to a code that legitimate promoters typically distribute for free.
Examples
- A fan pays for "VIP fan club membership" that promises a presale code, but the code either never arrives or fails at checkout.
- A social media post sells a supposed exclusive presale code that turns out to be an expired promotional code copied from an old email.
