Grant Writer Advance Fee Scam
A scam in which someone posing as a professional grant writer or consultant charges an upfront fee to secure a grant for a small business, nonprofit, or individual, then delivers nothing.

Legitimate grant writing is a real profession, and many genuine consultants do charge fees to help organizations or individuals prepare strong grant applications. The scam version of this exploits that legitimacy by guaranteeing an outcome no honest grant writer could promise, telling victims they are 'guaranteed' to receive a specific grant amount if they pay a substantial upfront fee, when in reality no consultant can guarantee approval of a competitive grant application.
Some versions go further and fabricate an entire grant program that does not exist at all, claiming to have insider access to funding opportunities that are not publicly listed. Victims, often small business owners or nonprofit founders eager for funding, pay the fee and either receive a generic, unusable application template or nothing at all. A legitimate grant writer's fee should be tied to the work of preparing an application, never to a guaranteed outcome, and any claim of exclusive access to a hidden grant program should be independently verified against the funder's own public listings.
