MetaMask support scams are a category of impersonation fraud targeting cryptocurrency wallet users. Attackers pose as official support representatives through Twitter/X replies, Discord messages, Telegram bots, and fake support portals that appear in search results for queries like 'MetaMask help' or 'wallet locked.'
The endgame is always either the seed phrase or installation of remote-access software. Victims are told their wallet has a security issue, is flagged, needs migration, or requires a 'synchronisation' that involves entering their recovery phrase into a site the attacker controls. In remote-access variants, the scammer watches as the victim navigates to their wallet and captures credentials directly.
MetaMask and virtually all other non-custodial wallet providers have no support mechanism that involves your seed phrase. Support is provided through documentation and community forums. Any request for a seed phrase from someone claiming to be wallet support is, without exception, a scam.
