Task Scam
A fraud where victims are recruited for a fake remote job that involves completing simple online tasks, then lured into paying fees to unlock earnings they never receive.
Also known as: fake task job, like-and-earn scam, video task fraud

Task scams typically begin with an unsolicited message offering a part-time remote position involving repetitive digital work such as liking videos, rating products, or clicking ads. Victims complete an initial batch of tasks and see a small balance accumulate in a dashboard, creating the illusion of legitimate earnings.
The scam pivots when the platform demands an upfront deposit or upgrade fee before any payout can be processed. Victims who pay are pressured into additional top-ups as the system manufactures errors or blocked accounts. The balance shown is entirely fictitious and no withdrawal is ever processed.
Task scams are a modern evolution of work-at-home fraud, exploiting the global appetite for flexible remote income. They are especially prevalent on messaging apps and are often linked to crypto-payment platforms to complicate refund attempts.
