Deepfake Voice 'Support' Calls Impersonating Cash App
AI-generated voice technology is being used to mimic convincing phone support lines and fake human agents, pressuring Cash App users into sharing sign-in codes. Because Cash App has no official phone number, any inbound support call is already suspicious — but AI voices make the deception harder to dismiss.

Cash App's genuine customer-support model is entirely digital — there is no official Cash App phone number. Criminals exploit this gap by creating fake helpline numbers and, increasingly, by using AI voice-synthesis tools to make those lines sound professional, responsive, and even emotionally persuasive. What was once a robocall with an obvious synthetic accent can now be a smooth, natural-sounding 'agent' that addresses you by name.
The call typically begins with a convincing automated-voice menu that mimics a real fintech company's IVR system, then connects you to a 'specialist' whose voice sounds credible — whether it is a real person or AI-generated. The specialist claims there has been suspicious activity on your account and that you must verify your identity by sharing the six-digit sign-in code that Cash App sends to your phone.
Sharing that code hands the attacker live access to your Cash App session. Within seconds they can change your linked email, transfer any balance to their own $Cashtag, and lock you out entirely. The use of AI-assisted voice raises the difficulty of detection, but the request itself — share a code you just received — remains the definitive warning sign.
How this scam works on the Cash App brand
Real Cash App will never call you to ask for a sign-in code, PIN, or payment. Support is accessed only through the app (Profile > Support) or at cash.app/help. Any phone number advertising itself as 'Cash App Support' is fraudulent by definition.
The deepfake variant typically begins when a victim searches online for help, posts a question on Reddit or social media, or responds to a search-engine advertisement. They call the fake number and hear a convincing IVR menu. The subsequent 'agent' may already know the victim's name and approximate account balance — information sourced from public profiles or data breaches — and uses this to sound authoritative.
The agent explains a problem — a 'pending hold,' a 'security flag,' a 'duplicate transaction' — and says the only way to resolve it quickly is for the user to confirm their identity with the sign-in code. Some versions also ask the victim to enable Cash App's screen sharing for 'remote verification,' giving the attacker full visibility of the app in real time.
Common red flags
- You found a Cash App support number via a web search or social-media post — Cash App has no official phone number
- The caller, however convincing, asks for the six-digit sign-in code that just arrived on your phone
- The agent requests you install a screen-sharing or remote-access app
- Call audio sounds unusually smooth with odd pauses — possible signs of AI voice generation
- The number is not listed anywhere on cash.app's own official pages
- The caller creates urgency: 'Your account will be closed in the next hour'
How to protect yourself
- Remember: Cash App has no official support phone number — any inbound or advertised support call is a scam
- Never share any code that arrives on your phone with a caller, regardless of how professional they sound
- Access support only through the Cash App itself under Profile > Support
- Do not install AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or any other remote-access app at a caller's request
- Enable the Security Lock feature in Cash App settings so every payment requires your PIN or biometric
- If you shared a code, immediately open Cash App, change your PIN, and review recent transactions
How to report it
- Report the fake number and experience through Cash App's in-app support system
- Forward any smishing texts to 7726 (SPAM) to alert your carrier
- File a report with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov
- Report in the UK to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040
- Flag the fake support number to Google so it can be removed from search results via google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/
Frequently asked questions
Can an AI voice really fool someone into thinking it is a real support agent?
Modern voice-synthesis tools can produce natural-sounding speech with realistic pacing and intonation. Combined with background office noise and scripted responses, they are convincing enough to deceive many people under pressure. The safe rule is: never share a code, regardless of how real a voice sounds.
Why does Cash App not have a phone support number?
Cash App deliberately chose a digital-only support model. This is a known gap that fraudsters exploit with fake numbers. Always go directly to cash.app/help or use the in-app support feature.
What if I already shared my sign-in code?
Open Cash App immediately on your device, go to Profile > Support, and report the incident. Change your Cash App PIN and linked email. If a payment left your account, request a dispute via in-app support and report to the FTC.
