Telegram's private, less-moderated channels and groups have become a common place for real creator networking, which gives scammers posing as managers a plausible environment to approach creators directly with offers that sound like standard industry outreach.
How this scam works on Telegram
A scammer messages a creator on Telegram claiming to represent a management agency or marketing service, offering to boost subscriber counts, secure brand partnerships, or handle account growth in exchange for an upfront management fee or access to the creator's account credentials 'to optimize performance.' Some variations ask the creator to join a private Telegram channel or group where fake testimonials from other 'clients' create social proof for the arrangement.
Once the fee is paid or account access is granted, the promised growth or deals never materialize, communication stalls, or in more damaging cases the scammer uses the account access to steal content, lock the creator out, or demand a ransom to return control. Because legitimate creator management does exist and real agencies do operate over messaging apps, the professional-sounding pitch and fabricated client testimonials can make the offer feel credible enough to lower a creator's guard.
Common red flags
- Unsolicited Telegram message offering management services or guaranteed subscriber growth
- Request for upfront payment before any concrete results or contract is provided
- Request for direct account login credentials rather than standard collaborator or manager access tools
- Testimonials or 'client' proof only exist within the same private Telegram group, unverifiable elsewhere
- No verifiable business registration, website, or independent online presence for the 'agency'
- Pressure to act quickly to 'lock in' a limited-time management slot or deal
How to protect yourself
- Never share account login credentials with anyone claiming to be a manager or growth service
- Verify any agency's business registration and independent online reputation before engaging
- Ask for a written contract and be wary of any arrangement that only exists informally over chat
- Be skeptical of guaranteed growth numbers, since no legitimate service can promise specific subscriber outcomes
- Use official collaborator or team-access features provided by your platform instead of sharing your password
- Consult other established creators or industry groups to verify a manager's reputation before paying anything
How to report it
- Report the account and channel directly to Telegram through the app's report function
- Report the scam to your platform's creator support team if account access was compromised
- File a complaint with the FTC or the FBI's IC3 (ic3.gov) for financial losses
- Change your account passwords and enable two-factor authentication immediately if credentials were shared
Frequently asked questions
Is it normal for a manager to ask for my account password?
No. Legitimate management and growth services use official collaborator tools or limited-permission access built into the platform itself, never a full account password, which should never be shared with anyone.
How can I verify a Telegram 'agency' is real before paying a fee?
Look for a verifiable business registration, an independent website and reputation outside the private Telegram group itself, and be cautious of testimonials that only exist inside the same chat making the pitch.
