Albania's significant emigration tradition — particularly to Italy, Greece, and Germany — creates sustained demand for legal overseas work. Fake recruitment agencies, both physical and online, exploit this demand by advertising positions that do not exist and collecting fees from applicants who are never placed.
The genuine availability of some legal migration pathways makes it harder for prospective workers to distinguish real opportunities from fraudulent ones, increasing the effectiveness of these schemes.
How this scam works on Albania
Fake Albanian recruitment agencies advertise on Facebook and local job boards, posting listings for construction, domestic work, hospitality, and seasonal agricultural roles in Western Europe. After a simulated interview, successful applicants are charged fees for visa processing, documentation, and travel.
EU seasonal work programme scams exploit the real existence of such programmes: fraudsters sell access to agricultural or hospitality positions in Italy, Germany, or France that they have no authority to offer.
Some scammers impersonate real Albanian agencies that hold genuine agreements with foreign employers, using similar names to intercept applicants who have done partial research.
