Fake Recruiter Scams in Dubai & UAE
Fraudulent job offers exploiting demand for UAE employment, targeting workers from South Asia, the Philippines, and Africa.

The UAE's booming economy and high wages attract millions of job seekers each year. Fake recruiters exploit this demand by advertising non-existent positions in hospitality, construction, healthcare, and domestic work. Victims pay significant fees for visa sponsorship, flight tickets, and training certificates — then arrive in the UAE to find no job exists.
The harm extends beyond financial loss. Some victims arrive in debt, without contacts or return tickets, and face exploitation by third parties who offer temporary accommodation in exchange for labour. The vulnerability is greatest among workers from countries with high migration rates to the Gulf.
How this scam works on Dubai & UAE
Scam agencies advertise on Facebook, Indeed, and informal WhatsApp groups, often copying logos of legitimate UAE companies. They collect fees for 'visa processing', 'Emirates ID registration', or 'medical fitness tests' payable in advance to an overseas account.
In some cases the recruiter provides genuine-looking offer letters with forged company stamps. The victim arrives at Dubai International Airport with a tourist visa, not a work visa, and discovers the company named on the offer letter knows nothing about them.
More sophisticated rings operate from within the UAE itself, using legitimate-looking office space and fake managers, collecting fees from multiple candidates before disappearing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a refund if I paid a fake recruiter in the UAE?
If the agency was operating within the UAE, MOHRE has powers to order restitution and cancel licences. File a complaint immediately. If the agency was overseas, recovery is harder, but reporting to Dubai Police creates a record that can support cross-border action.
