Fake Recruiter Scams in Pakistan
How fraudulent recruiters in Pakistan extract fees from jobseekers and, in the most serious cases, traffic individuals abroad.

Fake recruiter scams in Pakistan range from simple advance-fee fraud — where a recruiter collects a placement fee and vanishes — to serious organised crime operations that traffic individuals into labour exploitation or forced scam-compound work in Southeast Asia. Pakistan's high overseas employment aspirations and large existing diaspora create a broad target pool for recruiters making implausible promises.
The FIA has identified trafficking networks specifically recruiting Pakistanis with fake job offers for Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand where victims are forced to operate online fraud operations under coercion.
How this scam works on Pakistan
In Pakistan, fake recruiters operate through Facebook advertisements, physical flyers in major cities, and WhatsApp broadcast networks. They offer specific, well-paying roles: software developer, customer service agent, or hospitality manager at overseas hotels. The package — salary, accommodation, flights — sounds compelling and close to realistic.
Once the victim pays the 'visa processing fee,' the job either never materialises or the victim travels only to find a completely different situation awaiting them. The most dangerous cases involve controlled environments where victims are held against their will in scam operations.
Recruit victims have reported being charged for food and accommodation on arrival, creating debt bondage that makes escape very difficult.
Common red flags
- Job offer for Southeast Asian countries pays exceptionally well for customer service or data entry — this is a trafficking red flag
- Recruiter arranges everything including flights and accommodation but is evasive about the employer's legal name and address
- Upfront fee required before placement — legitimate employers pay for relocation
- Offer arrived via Facebook or WhatsApp with no application process
- Recruiter discourages you from independently researching the employer
How to protect yourself
- Verify BEOE licensing for any overseas placement agency before paying anything
- Research the destination employer independently and contact them directly to confirm the vacancy
- For Southeast Asian placements especially, verify with the relevant embassy that the employer is legitimate
- Share all job details with family before travelling — maintain open communication
- Know the FIA trafficking hotline (1414) and your country's embassy in the destination before travelling
How to report it
- Call the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking hotline (1414) if you suspect trafficking is involved
- Report to BEOE at beoe.gov.pk with full details of the recruiter and any fees paid
- Contact the Pakistani embassy in the destination country immediately if you are stranded or unsafe
Frequently asked questions
What should I do if I am in another country and believe I have been trafficked?
Contact the Pakistani embassy or high commission immediately — they are required to provide consular assistance. Also contact local police if safe to do so and call Pakistan's FIA Anti-Human Trafficking hotline at 1414. Do not try to confront your traffickers directly; prioritise getting a message to the embassy or a trusted contact in Pakistan.
