Fake Revolut Subscription Renewal Phishing
Scammers send fake renewal notices for Revolut Premium or Metal plans, claiming the victim's card will be charged and offering a cancellation link — which leads to a phishing page that harvests Revolut login credentials.

Revolut offers paid subscription tiers (Standard, Plus, Premium, Metal, Ultra) with monthly or annual renewal payments. Like all subscription services, this creates a recurring-billing expectation that scammers exploit: fake renewal emails closely mimic the format of Revolut's own billing communications, preying on users who may be uncertain whether they signed up for a paid tier.
The fake renewal notice states that a substantial annual fee (typically quoted for a premium tier) will be charged to the victim's card and provides two calls to action: 'Confirm Renewal' and 'Cancel Subscription'. Both links lead to the same phishing page, or the 'Cancel' link leads to a support form asking for login credentials to 'locate and cancel the account'.
Victims who never subscribed to a paid tier are particularly vulnerable because the urgency of preventing an unexpected charge motivates them to act quickly. Even users on free plans, who know they have a Revolut account, may be uncertain about their current subscription tier and click to investigate.
How this scam works on the Revolut brand
Real Revolut subscription renewal notices are sent from @revolut.com and can be verified against the current plan shown inside the Revolut app under Profile > Plan. Revolut's in-app subscription management allows users to see, upgrade, or cancel their plan without needing to click any email link.
Fake renewal emails come from domains like revolut-billing.com or account-renewal-service.net and ask users to log in via an external link to manage their subscription. The fake login page captures credentials and may additionally ask for the card number to 'confirm the card being charged' — a detail the real Revolut app would already know.
Some campaigns escalate to a phone call variant, where a fake Revolut agent calls the victim to 'confirm the cancellation', guides them through 'verification steps' that include reading an OTP, and uses that OTP to log in to the actual Revolut account.
Common red flags
- Renewal email from an address other than @revolut.com
- Quoted annual fee for a plan you do not recognise as your current Revolut plan
- Both 'confirm' and 'cancel' links lead to an external non-Revolut domain
- Page asks for your Revolut password or an OTP to process a cancellation
- A follow-up call from a 'Revolut billing agent' asking for verification details
- Invoice shows a charge date in the immediate future, creating urgency to cancel right now
- Email address used by Revolut in your account is different from the address the phishing email was sent to
How to protect yourself
- Check your Revolut plan status directly in the app: Profile > Plan — do not use any email link
- Manage subscription changes through the app only, where the interface is authenticated
- Verify the sender address before clicking any billing-related link
- Enable Revolut's spending notifications so you see real charges as they occur
- Never share an OTP or PIN to cancel a subscription — cancellation is done in-app with no code required
- Block and report the email sender if you are certain it is fraudulent
- If a charge you did not expect appears in your real Revolut account, dispute it through in-app chat
How to report it
- Report the phishing email through Revolut's in-app chat: Profile > Help > Chat with us
- In the UK, forward phishing emails to [email protected]
- Report to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk (UK) or the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov (US)
- Report the phishing domain to ICANN or your national cybercrime unit
- If real charges appeared, dispute them through the Revolut app and escalate to your card network
Frequently asked questions
How do I check what Revolut plan I am actually on?
Open the Revolut app, tap your profile picture or icon, and select 'Plan'. This shows your current subscription tier and the next renewal date if you are on a paid plan. This is the authoritative source — not any email.
Does Revolut send annual renewal reminders by email?
Revolut does send billing-related emails from @revolut.com, but the safest practice is to confirm any subscription status through the app rather than by following email links. Real emails will always match what you see in the app.
What if a fake Revolut renewal email charged my card through some mechanism?
If you entered payment details on a fake site, contact your card issuer immediately to dispute the charge and cancel the card. Also change your Revolut password and review your Revolut account for any linked card changes.
