Fake TikTok Official Giveaway Impersonation Scam
Scam TikTok accounts and videos impersonate TikTok's official channels to run fake giveaways, directing users to credential-harvesting forms or advance-fee payment pages under the guise of prize claims.

TikTok's platform culture embraces challenges, trends, and creator giveaways. Official TikTok communications and features appear frequently in the For You feed, conditioning users to engage with TikTok-branded content as a normal activity. Scammers exploit this by creating accounts and videos that closely mimic TikTok's own identity.
A fake giveaway video or LIVE may feature a voice saying 'TikTok is giving 100 users a $1,000 cash reward for reaching our user milestone'. Viewers are instructed to follow the account, comment, or visit a link in bio to 'register their entry'. The link leads to a form that collects personal information, TikTok credentials, or a small fee to 'unlock the reward'.
Some variants run the giveaway via TikTok LIVE, using real-time comments from bots that appear to confirm other users winning to create social proof.
How this scam works on the TikTok brand
TikTok's genuine announcements come from its official verified @tiktok account and through in-app notifications. TikTok does not run giveaways that require users to pay a fee or enter credentials on an external website to claim a prize.
The scam account is created with a username similar to @tiktok — such as '@tiktok_official_events' or '@tiktok_rewards2026' — with a profile photo using TikTok's logo. The LIVE or video creates artificial urgency with a countdown and a fake viewer count inflated by bots.
Victims who visit the link in bio find a form styled to look like TikTok's login page. After submitting credentials or a payment, they are shown a 'pending confirmation' message. The attacker then takes over the TikTok account or absconds with the payment.
Common red flags
- A TikTok account that is not the official verified @tiktok account is announcing a large cash or prize giveaway from TikTok.
- The giveaway requires visiting an external link to claim a prize — TikTok's real promotions do not work this way.
- A fee is required to receive the prize.
- The account username closely mimics @tiktok but with additions such as '_official' or '_rewards'.
- Comments under the video or LIVE are identical or repetitive — a sign of bot inflation.
- The form at the link-in-bio requests your TikTok username and password.
How to protect yourself
- Verify TikTok announcements only through the official verified @tiktok account within the app.
- Never pay a fee or log in to an external site to claim a TikTok giveaway prize.
- Enable TikTok two-step verification at Profile > Settings > Security > Two-Step Verification.
- Report fake giveaway accounts by tapping the three-dot menu on the profile and selecting 'Report'.
- If you submitted credentials, change your TikTok password immediately and check your linked payment methods.
- Block and report comments in TikTok LIVE sessions that promote suspicious links.
How to report it
- Report the fake account to TikTok by tapping the three-dot menu on the profile > Report.
- Report the phishing URL to Google Safe Browsing at safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/.
- If your account was taken over, contact TikTok Support through the Help Center in the app.
- Report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov (US) or Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk (UK).
Frequently asked questions
Does TikTok officially run cash giveaways for reaching user milestones?
TikTok does run promotional campaigns and creator reward programmes, but these are managed through official verified channels and never require users to pay a fee or enter credentials on an external site. Treat any such requirement as a scam.
How can I tell if a TikTok LIVE is hosted by the real TikTok account?
The real TikTok account has a verified blue tick next to the username @tiktok. Any LIVE hosted by an account without this tick claiming to be TikTok official is fraudulent.
I commented on the video to enter the giveaway. Did I give anything away?
A comment alone does not compromise your account. However, if you then visited an external link and submitted any credentials or payment, you should change your TikTok password immediately and contact your bank if a payment was made.
