Revolut vehicle listing scams are common in the UK and across Europe, where the platform is widely used for peer-to-peer payments. Sellers on Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, and regional classified sites request Revolut transfers because they settle instantly, are multi-currency, and can be difficult to recover once the funds are moved internationally.
Buyers who are comfortable with Revolut for everyday transactions may not associate it with the risk of high-value purchases from strangers.
How this scam works on Revolut
A listing for a van, car, or motorcycle appears at a below-market price. The seller explains they are busy, out of the country, or the vehicle is at a storage facility some distance away. They request a Revolut transfer as a deposit or full payment before arranging a viewing.
Some scammers present a fake 'AutoTrader Buyer Protection' or equivalent portal URL alongside the Revolut request, fabricating a guarantee that the platform provides no actual protection for.
After payment, the seller provides a tracking number from a fake logistics company showing the car in transit — collecting further fees before going silent.

Frequently asked questions
Can Revolut reverse a payment sent to a fake vehicle seller?
Revolut can attempt a payment recall if reported promptly, before the recipient withdraws. Once funds are moved, recovery through Revolut alone is unlikely. File a report with Revolut and your national financial authority to support investigation.
