Revolut's wide adoption across Europe — particularly among 18-35 year olds who are also the primary targets of sextortion-style romance scams — has made it a natural demand vehicle for operators targeting this demographic. A Revolut payment request arrives through a familiar interface, feels less alarming than a wire transfer, and can be completed in seconds.
Because the scammer and victim may both be European Revolut users, the transaction framing feels peer-to-peer and legitimate, reducing the psychological resistance that more obviously unusual payment methods would trigger.
How this scam works on Revolut
After a romance-style build-up on dating apps or Instagram, the scammer obtains or fabricates compromising content. The extortion demand arrives via the same messaging channel and specifies a Revolut payment — either through a Revolut.me link or a direct account transfer — within a short deadline.
Some operators use the Revolut 'Request Money' feature — which generates a shareable request link — to make the payment one-tap simple for the victim. The link appears in the messaging thread as an embedded payment object.
A secondary escalation typically follows initial payment, with doubled demands and tighter deadlines. Operators who manage multiple concurrent victims run these escalations from scripts.

Frequently asked questions
Can Revolut reverse a payment I made under extortion pressure?
Revolut can attempt to recall a transfer if reported immediately and if the recipient's account still holds the balance. Report via in-app support as soon as possible. However, sextortion operators typically withdraw funds quickly. The criminal framing of the transfer — coercion under threat — is relevant to police reports even if financial recovery is not possible.
