Task Scams in Ukraine
Online micro-task fraud on Telegram recruits Ukrainians with simple paid tasks before demanding crypto deposits that are never returned.

Task scams are among the most actively growing cyber-frauds in Ukraine, with the Cyberpolice reporting a significant increase in victim complaints. Ukrainian residents — particularly those with reduced income due to the ongoing economic disruption — are targeted through Telegram channels and Instagram ads offering easy work-from-home income.
The scheme exploits Ukraine's high smartphone penetration and Telegram usage. Ukrainian-language task-scam Telegram channels amass thousands of apparent members, with fabricated success stories in Ukrainian maintaining the illusion of legitimacy.
How this scam works on Ukraine
A Telegram message or Instagram ad offers €20–€50 per hour for completing online tasks such as subscribing to YouTube channels, leaving app reviews or clicking affiliate links. Initial unpaid tasks build engagement, then small payments are made to establish credibility.
After a week, the victim is told they have qualified for a premium task category paying significantly more but requiring a deposit of 500–2,000 UAH (or equivalent in crypto) to 'unlock' the task batch. The deposit is never returned, and further deposits are requested to reach 'withdrawal threshold'.
Ukrainian victims report that criminal groups target military families and displaced persons specifically, with messaging tailored to the financial hardship context.
