WhatsApp job scams are among the most frequently reported online fraud types in Egypt, exploiting the country's high youth unemployment and widespread aspiration for Gulf employment. Fraudulent offers range from domestic remote work positions to Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar employment opportunities, all requiring advance fees before work can begin.
Some WhatsApp job scams in Egypt are linked to human trafficking networks that facilitate irregular migration under the guise of legitimate employment, making victim due diligence especially important.
How this scam works on Egypt
A WhatsApp message circulates in job-seeker groups or arrives directly, offering a domestic remote customer service or data entry role at rates well above Egyptian market levels, or a Saudi/UAE hospitality, construction, or domestic worker position with visa sponsorship included. The sender may impersonate a recruiter from a well-known Gulf company.
After expressing interest, victims are asked to pay for visa processing, medical examination fees, or skills training certificates required by the employer. Each payment produces a new requirement. Eventually contact ceases and the promised role never materializes.
For overseas fraud variants, some victims pay fees and travel abroad to find working conditions entirely different from what was promised, or no job exists at all.
