Cash App Scams
Scams that target Cash App users — from fake giveaways to support fraud.
Last reviewed: 1 June 2026
Cash App's ease of use and peer-to-peer payment model have made it popular with a wide range of users — and with scammers. Fraudsters exploit the platform's simplicity to run giveaway scams, fake customer support impersonations, and social-media-driven money-flipping schemes.
Cash App Friday — the platform's genuine occasional giveaway — is widely imitated by scammers who promise cash in exchange for a small upfront payment. Fake customer support phone numbers that appear in search results also lead victims to give up their account details or make payments to fraudsters.
This guide explains the main scam types involving Cash App, how to identify them, and the steps to take if you think your account or money may be at risk.
Common scams using Cash App
Money-flipping scams
Social media accounts or DMs claim to be able to multiply a small Cash App payment into a larger sum — a common scam with no basis in reality.
Fake Cash App Friday giveaway
Impostor accounts mimicking the official Cash App social media claim users have won and ask for a payment to release winnings.
Fake Cash App customer support
Scammers pose as support agents via phone, social media, or email and ask for account login details or payment.
Phishing for sign-in codes
Scammers trigger a genuine sign-in code by entering a victim's phone number, then call claiming to be support and ask for the code.
