Discord Scams
Scams targeting Discord users — from fake NFTs to phishing links.
Last reviewed: 1 June 2026
Discord's server-based communities attract millions of gamers, crypto enthusiasts, and hobbyists — and the scammers who prey on them. The platform's casual, trust-heavy culture means that malicious links, impersonation bots, and fake giveaways spread quickly through servers that users already trust.
This guide covers the most common Discord scam types, the warning signs to watch for, and the steps to protect your account and report fraud.
Common scams on Discord
Fake NFT and crypto giveaways
Announcements in popular servers promise free tokens or NFTs and direct users to wallet-draining sites.
Phishing DMs from fake admins
Bots or compromised accounts impersonate server staff and send links claiming the user has 'won' something or must verify their account.
Fake job or paid-task offers
DMs offer easy money for simple tasks that quickly require upfront deposits or personal information.
Compromised account takeover
A 'friend' in Discord sends a link asking you to vote for their game or art project — clicking installs a token-stealing tool.
Common red flags
- Unsolicited DMs about prizes, giveaways, or job offers
- Links that ask you to connect or verify your crypto wallet
- Server announcements with urgency or a countdown timer
- Anyone asking you to disable 2FA or share a login code
- A 'friend' sending an unusual link with no context
How to protect yourself
- Enable two-factor authentication on your Discord account
- Set DMs from server members to 'off' or 'friends only' in Privacy settings
- Never click wallet-connect links from DMs or unverified server posts
- Verify prize or admin claims directly in official announcement channels
- Treat any message asking for a verification code as a hijack attempt
How to report it
- Right-click any message or user and choose 'Report' inside Discord
- Submit a report at discord.com/safety
- If a wallet was drained, report to your national fraud authority
Frequently asked questions
Can scammers steal my Discord account without my password?
Yes. Clicking a malicious link can hand scammers an authentication token that gives them access without your password. Never click unknown links, and revoke suspicious app authorisations in User Settings > Authorised Apps.
