Is a ticket seller outside a venue selling real tickets?
There is a real risk of fake, invalid, or already-used tickets. Buy only from official sources or reputable authorised resellers.

Explanation
Tickets bought from touts or informal sellers outside a venue carry no guarantee of authenticity. Fake printed tickets, duplicated barcodes, cancelled tickets, or tickets for the wrong seating area are all risks. Scammers also operate online, posing as private sellers on social media or classified sites, taking payment and never delivering.
For online purchases, the risk is higher still: a ticket listed on a non-authorised platform may have already been sold multiple times, with the first person through the gate gaining access and subsequent tickets being rejected. Only the first scan of a valid barcode gains entry.
Common red flags
- Tickets offered via social media direct messages rather than an established platform
- Price significantly above or below face value without clear explanation
- Seller is unwilling to use a tracked or protected payment method
- You are asked to pay by bank transfer, cash app, or gift card
- Seller pressures you to buy quickly before others take them
- No official receipt or confirmation is provided
What to do now
- Buy only from the venue's official box office or authorised resellers
- For resale, use platforms that offer buyer guarantees
- If you suspect you have a fake ticket, contact the venue before the event
- Report the seller to the platform and your national fraud service
- If you paid and received nothing or a fake, contact your bank
Frequently asked questions
The ticket looks completely real — how would I know it's fake?
You may not know until the barcode is scanned at the gate. Prevention is the only reliable protection — buy only through official channels.
Are all ticket resellers fraudulent?
No. Authorised resale platforms provide guarantees and seller accountability. The risk is with unverified individual sellers, social media listings, and classified sites with no buyer protection.
