Job scams exploit the vulnerability of people seeking employment. Common forms include: fake remote-work listings that require an upfront equipment or training fee; reshipping or 'parcel forwarding' roles that are actually money-muling operations; 'task-based' scams (especially common in Southeast Asia) where workers receive cryptocurrency for completing app tasks, must top up their balance to continue, and can never withdraw; and job offers that harvest detailed personal information for identity theft.
Task-based scams are closely related to pig-butchering and often ensnare victims who were not looking for investment opportunities but responded to what appeared to be legitimate flexible work.
Legitimate employers do not ask for payment, do not require a credit check before making an offer, and do not ask you to use your personal bank account to process company payments.
