Czechia has a growing crypto community centred around Prague, which fraudsters exploit with fake exchanges and token projects using Czech-language marketing. Scammers register CZK-denominated trading platforms with convincing Czech interfaces, accept deposits, then block withdrawals once sufficient funds have accumulated.
CNB has increased its scrutiny of crypto service providers under evolving EU MiCA rules and maintains a growing list of unregistered crypto platforms. Czech victims report losses ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands of CZK.
How this scam works on Czechia
A social-media campaign promotes a new Czech crypto exchange accepting CZK with zero fees for domestic bank transfers. Early users receive genuine-looking returns, and word-of-mouth spreads within Czech crypto Telegram groups.
As deposit volumes grow, withdrawal requests are met with 'Czech financial intelligence unit (FAÚ) verification' delays or 'anti-money-laundering holds'. The platform eventually disappears.
Other operations promote Czech-branded altcoins with nationalist or local-community angles, driving artificial price pumps before the team sells and the token collapses.
