When people complain about a company on Facebook, fake support is waiting. Scammers monitor brand pages and comments, then reach out as 'official support' through a lookalike page or a Messenger reply, turning a moment of frustration into an opportunity.
Facebook is a neutral platform; the harm comes from impersonating accounts, not the brands themselves. Scammers exploit the public visibility of complaints and the trust people place in a prompt 'support' reply to extract credentials, payments, or control of a device.
How this scam works on Facebook
After you post a problem or tag a company, a fake 'support' account messages you offering to help. The page name and avatar mimic the brand, and the tone is reassuringly professional.
They ask you to 'verify your account' by sharing login details or a code, to pay a 'fee' to resolve the issue, or to install remote-access software so they can 'fix' it. A fake refund 'overpayment' may be used to demand you send money back.
Because the contact arrived as a fast, helpful response to your complaint, you may comply before noticing the page is not the genuine brand.

Frequently asked questions
A support page replied to my complaint quickly — is it the real company?
Not necessarily. Scammers monitor complaints and reply from lookalike pages to intercept you. Reach support only through the company's official website, and never share logins, codes, or payments with a Messenger 'support' account.
