Fake Spotify Beta Access Scam
Scammers send fake invitations to an exclusive 'Spotify HiFi Beta' or 'Spotify Premium Plus' test programme, harvesting Spotify credentials and sometimes payment details under the guise of signing up for early access.

Spotify regularly releases new features and products, and genuine beta testing programmes exist for some of these. The existence of real beta features — and the aspirational appeal of getting exclusive early access — makes the concept highly believable as a lure.
Criminals send emails or social media messages that mimic Spotify's design and announce a limited invitation to test a new tier such as 'Spotify HiFi', 'Spatial Audio Beta', or 'Spotify Premium Plus'. The invitation explains that the recipient was selected based on their listening habits and account status, adding a personalised touch that increases credibility.
The sign-up link leads to a convincing Spotify-branded form that requests your Spotify login credentials to 'link your account', and sometimes a payment card to 'activate the trial'. Neither action grants any beta access — they simply harvest valuable credentials and financial data.
How this scam works on the Spotify brand
Spotify manages genuine beta and early-access programmes through the Spotify Community forums, through its official beta testing app on iOS TestFlight and Android, and through opt-in programmes within the Spotify app itself. Spotify does not cold-email random users to invite them to exclusive paid betas.
The scam invitation uses Spotify's green-and-white colour scheme, the correct Spotify logo, and professional typography. It references real Spotify features — lossless audio, AI DJ, Spotify Wrapped — to make the claimed new feature feel like a natural continuation of the product roadmap.
After the victim submits their Spotify credentials on the fake form, the attacker immediately logs in to the real Spotify account, changes the password and associated email, and locks the victim out. The account is then sold or used to subscribe to premium features at the victim's expense.
Common red flags
- An unsolicited email invites you to a Spotify beta programme you never applied for.
- The sender email address is not from @spotify.com — look for variations like 'spotify-beta.io' or 'getspotify.net'.
- The invitation link goes to a site other than spotify.com.
- You are asked to sign in via an external form rather than through the official Spotify app.
- The beta requires a payment card to 'activate your trial' before any product is available to use.
- The email mentions exclusivity strongly: 'Only 500 users selected — respond within 12 hours.'
How to protect yourself
- Look for genuine Spotify beta programmes only at community.spotify.com or through announcements within the Spotify app itself.
- Enable two-factor authentication on your Spotify account at spotify.com/account/security.
- Use a unique password for Spotify, not one shared with your email or any other service.
- Never enter your Spotify login credentials on any site reached via an email or DM link.
- If you submitted your credentials, change your Spotify password immediately at spotify.com/account and sign out of all other devices.
- Check your Spotify account email and payment method for any changes at spotify.com/account/overview.
How to report it
- Report the phishing email to Spotify by contacting them at spotify.com/us/contact-us/.

- Report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov (US) or Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk (UK).
- If a payment card was compromised, contact your bank immediately.
Frequently asked questions
How does Spotify actually invite users to beta programmes?
Spotify invites beta testers through the Spotify Community, the TestFlight app on iOS, or through in-app prompts. It does not send cold emails to random users offering exclusive paid tiers in exchange for signing in via an external link.
Is there really a Spotify HiFi or Premium Plus tier?
Spotify has announced lossless audio features, but the details of how these will be released change over time. Treat any unsolicited email claiming you have exclusive early access to a new tier with scepticism regardless of the feature name.
I signed up via the fake form. What should I do now?
Change your Spotify password immediately at spotify.com/account, revoke access for any third-party apps you did not authorise, and check that your account email and subscription plan have not been changed. If you provided card details, contact your bank.
