Cash App has become a preferred target for tech support scammers partly because of its younger, mobile-first user base and partly because the app is independently managed, making it easy to impersonate. Fraudsters have created fake Cash App support lines that rank highly in search results, intercepting users who are genuinely seeking help with their account.
When a tech support scammer contacts a Cash App user, the paradox is that the victim may actually be reaching out for legitimate help — only to reach a fraudulent 'support agent' who uses that help-seeking moment to collect money.
How this scam works on Cash App
A victim searching for Cash App support online finds a number that appears in a search ad or non-official listing. When they call, an agent claims the account has been flagged for unusual activity and that a small Cash App-to-Cash App transfer is required to 'verify account ownership' and unlock the account.
In proactive variants, scammers call users directly claiming their Cash App account has been compromised. They direct the victim to send money to a 'secure Cash App escrow account' to protect their balance while the breach is investigated.
Some scammers combine Cash App demands with remote access requests, using screen-sharing to monitor the victim's app and guide them through making payments in real time.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find the real Cash App support contact?
The legitimate Cash App support is accessed through the app itself: tap your profile icon, then Support. You can also visit cash.app/help directly. Never call a number found through a general search engine — many results are fake support lines operated by scammers.
