Fake unpaid invoice scams can reach businesses through Telegram, where a message and an attached invoice chase payment for goods or services never ordered. The app's anonymity and username-based identities make it easy for a scammer to pose as a supplier with little to verify.
The informal channel removes the formal cues that would normally prompt a check, and the immediacy of chat lets the scammer apply pressure. The supposed order is vague and cannot be matched to any genuine record.
How this scam works on Telegram
The target receives a Telegram message with an attached invoice or a payment reminder for supplies, advertising, a listing, or similar. The sender may reference a supposed prior order or claim delivery already occurred.
They press for prompt payment, warning of charges or disruption, and provide payment details in the chat. The attached invoice is easily fabricated and matches no real purchase order.
If the business pays, the money funds the fraudster for something never ordered. Because Telegram identities can be changed or abandoned, recovery is difficult and follow-up messages may chase further invented invoices.

How to report it
- Report the account using Telegram's in-app reporting feature
- File a report with your national consumer protection or fraud body
- Notify your bank if a payment was made
Frequently asked questions
We received an overdue invoice on Telegram. Should we pay it?
Not without checking. A chat-attached invoice is easy to fabricate, and Telegram identities are hard to verify. Match it to a genuine purchase order and delivery, and confirm with the colleague who would have ordered it before paying.
