Non-Delivery Scams on Telegram
Sellers advertising goods through Telegram channels and groups collect payment and never dispatch items, exploiting the platform's lack of formal buyer protection.

Telegram non-delivery scams operate through a mix of dedicated shop channels and peer-to-peer sales within community groups. Because Telegram has no integrated payment system or purchase protection, buyers who pay outside a protected platform have no recourse through Telegram itself.
The channel or group format can make a fraudulent seller appear established — a channel with thousands of subscribers and months of posting history looks credible even if the posting history was purchased or manufactured.
How this scam works on Telegram
A Telegram channel or community group member advertises goods — commonly electronics, clothing, tickets, or cryptocurrency — at competitive prices. Interested buyers DM the seller and are directed to pay via bank transfer, cryptocurrency, or a peer-to-peer payment service. After payment, the seller either goes silent, provides a fake tracking number, or claims a delivery exception requires a further payment.
Some sellers conduct a small number of genuine transactions to build positive reviews within the community before scaling up the fraud, then disappearing with accumulated payments. In group settings, accomplice accounts post confirmation of successful purchases to encourage other members to buy.
Ticket sales fraud is particularly common: Telegram channels offer scarce event tickets at face value or below, collect payment, and provide either invalid tickets or no tickets at all.
Common red flags
- Telegram seller accepting payment via bank transfer, cryptocurrency, or PayPal Friends and Family
- No buyer protection mechanism — all risk falls on the buyer
- Positive reviews from accounts with limited group history
- Fake tracking numbers that show movement but never arrive at the buyer's address
- Request for additional payment after the initial purchase to 'release' the delivery
- Seller who becomes unresponsive after the payment window closes
How to protect yourself
- Only purchase goods through platforms that provide buyer protection
- Pay via credit card or PayPal Goods and Services rather than bank transfer or cryptocurrency
- Verify Telegram sellers through external reputation sources before transacting
- Decline any request for additional payment to resolve a delivery issue
- Report fraudulent sellers to the group moderators and to Telegram
How to report it
- Report the Telegram account using the in-app 'Report' function and select 'Fraud'
- Alert group moderators so they can warn other members
- File a report with your national consumer protection authority if financial loss occurred
Frequently asked questions
What can I do if I have already paid a Telegram seller who has disappeared?
If you paid by credit card, contact your bank for a chargeback. If you paid via bank transfer or cryptocurrency, recovery is very difficult — report to your national fraud authority and keep all evidence. Future protection comes from using only buyer-protected payment methods.
