Czechia's growing middle class and rising crypto-literacy make its residents increasingly attractive targets for pig-butchering operations. Scammers establish Czech-language relationships on social apps before guiding victims to fake investment platforms that accept CZK or EUR deposits.
CNB (Česká národní banka) maintains a list of entities operating without authorisation and issues investor warnings. The Czech Trade Inspection Authority and the national cybercrime police unit (NÚKIB) also track fraud volumes. Individual losses have reached hundreds of thousands of CZK.
How this scam works on Czechia
First contact arrives via Seznamka (Czech dating platform), Facebook, or WhatsApp. The scammer presents as a successful Czech entrepreneur or a diaspora Czech based in Germany or Austria, lending cultural credibility.
Victims are shown a trading platform with a Czech-language interface and guided to fund it via Wise, SEPA, or bank transfer. Initial 'returns' are shown in CZK or EUR with convincing decimal precision.
Withdrawal triggers invented CNB compliance requirements or Czech withholding-tax pre-payments. Scammers exploit Czech politeness norms to delay confrontation, keeping victims engaged longer.

Frequently asked questions
Is Wise a safe way to send investment funds?
Wise is a legitimate transfer service, but it cannot undo a transfer once completed. Scammers use it precisely because transfers to foreign accounts are fast and difficult to reverse.
