Task Scams in Moldova
How fake micro-task platforms target Moldovans seeking online income by requiring cryptocurrency deposits to access earnings.
Part of: Task Scams
Last reviewed: 1 June 2026
Task scams have reached Moldova via Telegram and WhatsApp, offering Moldovan residents income for completing simple online tasks — app reviews, product ratings, or social media engagement. The scam follows a consistent pattern: small payments build confidence before a cryptocurrency deposit is required to unlock higher-earning tasks, and that deposit is never returned.
Moldova's growing smartphone adoption and population interested in remote work make task scams effective. The promise of income without needing foreign language fluency or specialist skills makes the offer appealing.
How this scam works on Moldova
A Moldovan resident is recruited via a Telegram group or a message from an unknown contact offering part-time online income. They register on a website, complete a few tasks, and receive a small payment — proving the system 'works.'
When they attempt to access better-paid task sets, they are told a cryptocurrency deposit is required to 'activate' the account tier. Subsequent attempts to withdraw lead to further requirements. The platform's entire earnings dashboard is fabricated; no real money can be extracted.
Common red flags
- Unsolicited message about a part-time online job requiring no experience
- Initial payments prove the system works, but larger earnings always require a deposit first
- Cryptocurrency deposit required to unlock higher-tier tasks
- Account frozen pending additional payment to 'release' accumulated earnings
- No physical company address or verifiable registration details
How to protect yourself
- Legitimate employers never ask workers to make deposits to receive wages
- Do not make any cryptocurrency deposit in response to a job offer found via messaging apps
- Research the platform name through independent sources before registering
- Withdraw the smallest permitted amount immediately after any first payment to test legitimacy
- Report suspicious recruiting messages to Telegram or WhatsApp
How to report it
- Report to the Moldovan Police cybercrime division with screenshots of the platform and all messages
- Report the recruiting contact to the messaging platform involved
- Notify your crypto exchange if a transfer was made
Frequently asked questions
Is it possible to recover cryptocurrency paid into a task scam?
Cryptocurrency transactions are generally irreversible. However, report to police regardless — your complaint contributes to intelligence on known fraud addresses. Some exchanges freeze addresses flagged in multiple reports, though this rarely results in individual recovery. Act immediately and stop all further deposits.
