Telegram is one of the dominant social platforms in Uzbekistan, and task scams have exploited this reach to spread rapidly. Promising easy work for those who own a smartphone — liking posts, rating apps, writing reviews — these schemes target students, unemployed youth, and anyone seeking supplementary income.
The initial promise of honest digital work resonates strongly in a society where digital employment is expanding. The transition to a deposit-extraction model happens gradually enough that many victims are already emotionally committed before they realise something is wrong.
How this scam works on Uzbekistan
Uzbek task scam operators manage large Telegram channels that function as apparent 'digital employment agencies'. New recruits complete free tasks — following social media accounts, rating apps, watching YouTube videos — and receive small payments confirmed by screenshots in the channel.
After a period of trust-building, a higher-paying 'investment task' is introduced. To complete this task, the participant must deposit a sum that will be returned with profit after a short delay. The deposit is never returned, and further 'recovery deposits' are demanded.
In Uzbekistan, some task scams are run in Uzbek language specifically, with operators who understand local cultural references and trust signals — making their communications more persuasive than generic translated scripts.

Frequently asked questions
Are all Telegram-based job offers in Uzbekistan fraudulent?
Not all, but any that require a deposit to access work or receive payment are. Legitimate remote work platforms pay you — they never require you to pay them.
