Can I get money back if I was scammed using Venmo?
Venmo payments between individuals are generally final. If paid for goods via Venmo's purchase protection, open a dispute. For personal payments, report to Venmo and your bank.

Explanation
Venmo operates similarly to Cash App and Zelle for personal payments — once sent, the money is in the recipient's account and Venmo does not automatically reverse it. However, Venmo has introduced a Goods and Services category that offers buyer protection similar to PayPal (Venmo is owned by PayPal), with a 180-day dispute window.
If you used Venmo's Goods and Services option when purchasing an item, open a dispute through the Venmo app within 180 days. Venmo will investigate and, if the seller cannot prove delivery or the item was significantly misrepresented, you should receive a refund.
If you sent a personal (non-goods) payment, Venmo's terms state personal payments are not covered by purchase protection. In this case, your options are: report the recipient through the Venmo app, contact Venmo Support with evidence of fraud, and file a dispute with your bank or credit card if the payment was funded from a card rather than your Venmo balance.
Note that the overpayment scam is common on Venmo as well. A supposed buyer sends you more than expected, claims it was a mistake, and asks you to send back the difference — their original payment may be from a stolen account and will eventually be reversed, but your 'refund' is permanent. Never send back supposed overpayments without letting the reversal settle first.

Frequently asked questions
What is Venmo Goods and Services protection?
Venmo Goods and Services is a payment option that adds purchase protection for buyers and seller protections for sellers. Buyers can dispute transactions if the item is not received or is significantly not as described. This is similar to PayPal Buyer Protection.
How do I tell if a Venmo payment was made as personal or goods?
The transaction type is shown in the payment details in your Venmo transaction history. Personal payments show a default user icon; Goods and Services transactions are labeled with a shopping bag icon.
