I paid a scammer with Cash App — can I get my money back?
Cash App payments are generally instant and non-reversible, but you can report the transaction inside the app and contact Cash App Support — some cases qualify for reimbursement under their fraud policy.

Explanation
Cash App, like Venmo and Zelle, is designed for instant peer-to-peer transfers where both parties are willing. Unlike a bank wire, there is no intermediary bank that can be called to recall the transfer. Once a Cash App payment is accepted, the recipient has the money.
That said, Cash App does have a dispute process. Open the app, tap the clock icon to find the transaction, tap the three-dot menu, and select 'Need Help & Cash App Support.' Report the payment as a scam. Cash App will investigate and, in some cases involving confirmed fraud, may refund the amount. The more evidence you can provide — screenshots of the conversation, the scammer's Cashtag or phone number, and a description of what was promised — the stronger your case.
You can also file a dispute if the payment was sent in connection with a merchant purchase (not peer-to-peer). Cash App has a Cash Card for debit transactions, and charges made with the Cash Card at merchants follow different dispute rules similar to a debit card dispute.
File a report with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and the Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov. These filings create a paper trail that can help if law enforcement investigates. If the scammer was impersonating Cash App itself (a common phishing scam), also forward the scam messages to Cash App's phishing email address listed on their support page.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Cash App overpayment scam?
A scammer sends you more money than agreed and then asks you to send back the difference. The original payment is later reversed (it was made with a stolen card), but your 'refund' is real — leaving you out of pocket.
Does Cash App have buyer protection like PayPal?
Cash App does not offer the same level of buyer protection as PayPal Goods and Services. Personal payments on Cash App have no built-in purchase protection. For buying items from strangers, PayPal G&S is safer.
