To collect multiple payments (deposit, shipping, insurance, customs) via bank transfer or gift card before disappearing, leaving the buyer without a puppy or a refund.
Red flags in the message
- Seller contacts you first via WhatsApp with unsolicited puppy photos
- Breed in high demand at an unusually low price
- Seller cannot do a live video call with the puppy
- Multiple additional fees appearing after the initial deposit
- Pressure to pay by bank transfer, Zelle, Venmo, or gift card
- No physical address or verifiable kennel registration
A safe response
Only buy from breeders you can visit in person or who can provide a live video call with the puppy in a verifiable home setting. Use a registered breed society to find reputable breeders.
