App review and product rating job scams are among the most widespread Telegram-based employment frauds, operating at industrial scale across multiple countries. The premise is simple: a remote worker is paid to rate or review mobile apps, hotel listings, or products on various platforms. Initial tasks are genuinely simple and small payments may arrive, making the offer feel credible and repeatable.
The Telegram platform enables operators to manage thousands of 'employees' simultaneously through group chats and bot-driven task systems, creating a convincing illusion of a legitimate platform-economy employer. The real mechanism only becomes apparent when the victim is invited to earn larger commissions — which require a cryptocurrency deposit to unlock.
These operations are frequently run by large-scale fraud organisations and have been documented in connection with human trafficking, where victims are coerced into operating the scam itself.
How this scam works on Telegram
A Telegram contact introduces the victim to an app review platform accessible via a link or downloadable app. The system assigns daily task sets: rate five apps, complete three questionnaire forms, or post a review. Early tasks are simple and a small payment arrives, creating genuine positive reinforcement.
After several days, the victim is offered 'VIP task sets' that pay significantly more per task but require a cryptocurrency deposit to activate. The stated rationale is that the platform needs collateral to prevent fake reviews. After depositing, the victim completes tasks and sees their virtual balance grow on the platform's dashboard. Attempting to withdraw triggers a new requirement — a tax payment, upgrade fee, or completion of an additional task set — each requiring further cryptocurrency deposits.
The balance shown is fictional. The platform dashboard is designed solely to display numbers that encourage continued deposits.
Common red flags
- Job requires cryptocurrency deposits to access higher-paying task sets
- Earnings visible on a dashboard but withdrawal is blocked by recurring new fees or requirements
- Initial small payments arrive to build trust before deposit requests begin
- Platform is only accessible through Telegram and has no independently verifiable company presence
- Task completions do not correspond to any identifiable real-world review platform
- Customer support exists only within Telegram and becomes unavailable when withdrawal is attempted
How to protect yourself
- Never send cryptocurrency or money to a job platform to unlock earnings or access tasks
- Treat dashboard balances on unverified job platforms as fictional until a real withdrawal has been successfully completed
- Research any platform name independently before depositing — most have prior fraud reports
- Do not continue depositing if a withdrawal is blocked by additional fee requirements
- Withdraw any permitted small amount immediately if you have already deposited, and then stop
How to report it
- Report the Telegram account, group, and linked platform to Telegram using the built-in report tool
- File a cryptocurrency fraud report with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov or IC3 at ic3.gov
- Contact your national cybercrime authority — these operations are often run by organised international fraud groups
Frequently asked questions
Why would a legitimate review job require a cryptocurrency deposit?
It would not. No legitimate employer requires employees to pay a deposit to access work tasks. This requirement is the defining characteristic of this fraud type and should end engagement immediately.
If I have already deposited money, should I deposit more to try to withdraw my balance?
No. Each additional deposit is lost. The balance shown is not real money — it is a number designed to encourage further deposits. Stop depositing and report the operation.
