Some fake celebrity romance scams specifically target fans with an interest in cryptocurrency. The celebrity persona is built around a known or aspiring crypto entrepreneur, and the romantic relationship is woven with references to investments, tokens, or NFT projects that the celebrity is supposedly developing. Bitcoin payments are requested as a natural part of this narrative.
The combination of fan admiration and crypto excitement creates a powerful lure. Victims feel they are getting exclusive access to a famous person's financial world and are motivated to participate, even when participation requires sending Bitcoin.
How this scam works on Bitcoin
The scammer poses as a crypto-adjacent celebrity and quickly steers the relationship toward investment discussions. The victim is asked to participate in a 'private' Bitcoin project by sending a test amount. Once sent, the victim is shown a fake platform showing growing returns, encouraging more investment.
Or the scammer simply asks for Bitcoin 'donations' to a charity or cause the celebrity supposedly champions, with a promise of public recognition once the campaign is complete.
Bitcoin transactions are confirmed on the blockchain within minutes and are irreversible, making recovery extremely unlikely once sent.

Do real celebrities ever run private Bitcoin donation campaigns through DMs?
