Fake Hilton Honors Points Redemption Scam
Fraudsters impersonate Hilton Honors to send fake points-redemption offers or expiry warnings, directing members to phishing pages that steal their account login and drain their points balance.
Part of: Fake Loyalty Points Redemption Scams
Last reviewed: 8 June 2026
Hilton Honors is one of the world's largest hotel loyalty programmes. Its members accumulate points that can be redeemed for free nights, airline miles, and experiences. Scammers exploit the real value of these points by sending fake redemption offers or fabricated expiry alerts designed to trigger urgent login through a fraudulent link.
The timing of attacks often coincides with Hilton's genuine promotional communications — bonus-points offers, member appreciation events, or seasonal campaigns — making the fraudulent messages harder to distinguish from legitimate ones. Victims who click and log in through a fake page hand their credentials directly to the scammer.
Hilton Honors points are subject to expiry after 12 months of account inactivity, which provides scammers with a plausible urgency hook. Real inactivity warnings come exclusively from '@hilton.com' addresses and direct members to the Hilton Honors app or hilton.com — never to an external domain.
How this scam works on the Hilton brand
Phishing emails arrive from domains like 'hilton-honors-rewards.com', replicating Hilton's navy and gold branding and member tier language (Silver, Gold, Diamond). The message states the recipient's points are expiring and offers a special redemption: 'Use your 80,000 points on a free 5-night stay — but you must confirm your redemption by clicking below within 48 hours.'
The link leads to a convincing Hilton Honors sign-in page. Once the victim's credentials are captured, the scammer logs in to the real account and redeems points for gift cards, merchandise, or hotel credits that are transferred to addresses or accounts the scammer controls.
A secondary variant involves a phone call from someone claiming to be Hilton Honors member services, offering to help the member redeem points for maximum value. The caller needs the member to 'verify' their Honors number and PIN over the phone to proceed.
Common red flags
- Email arrives from any domain other than '@hilton.com' or a verified Hilton subdomain
- An expiry warning that references a large balance you do not recognise, or a balance different from what is shown in the Hilton Honors app
- You are asked to click an email link and log in to confirm a redemption rather than initiating it from inside the app
- A 'special offer' requires you to act within hours and is not reflected in your real account
- A caller asks for your Hilton Honors PIN — Hilton support never needs your PIN to access your account from their end
- The sign-in page URL is not hilton.com when you inspect the browser address bar
How to protect yourself
- Check your Hilton Honors balance and any expiry warnings directly in the Hilton app or by navigating to hilton.com — never via an email link
- Enable two-factor authentication on your Hilton Honors account in profile settings
- If you have not used your account recently, make a qualifying activity (a stay or a partner purchase) to reset any inactivity timer
- Never share your Honors PIN or password with any caller, regardless of how they identify themselves
- If you entered credentials on a suspicious page, change your Hilton password immediately and review recent redemption activity
- Contact Hilton Honors customer care at 1-800-548-8690 if you suspect unauthorised redemptions
