Fake Delta SkyMiles Redemption Offer Scam
Fraudsters impersonate Delta Air Lines to send fake SkyMiles limited-time redemption offers, leading victims to phishing pages designed to steal their SkyMiles login and credit card details.

Delta's SkyMiles programme sends genuine promotional communications — bonus miles offers, flash redemptions, and award seat alerts. Scammers replicate these communications precisely to present fake redemption opportunities that appear to be time-sensitive, high-value offers the member would be foolish to miss.
Unlike the expiry-warning variant of SkyMiles fraud, which frightens the recipient into acting, the fake redemption offer variant entices them with a positive opportunity: an unusually good award seat price, a limited miles-plus-cash deal, or a partner promotion offering elevated redemption rates. The lure is too good to pass up — which is by design.
Delta SkyMiles award bookings are made only through the Fly Delta app or at delta.com. Any offer that directs you to another site and asks you to log in via an embedded email link should be treated as suspect.
How this scam works on the Delta Air Lines brand
The phishing email uses Delta's branded template with a flight-path graphic and a prominent 'Exclusive Offer' banner. It claims the recipient's SkyMiles can be redeemed for a specific discounted first-class award on a popular route — 'New York to Los Angeles for 15,000 miles this week only'. The button reads 'Book Now'.
The landing page replicates Delta.com's award-booking interface. Once the victim's credentials are captured, the scammer logs in to the real SkyMiles account and immediately redeems miles for gift cards or travel credits redeemable for merchandise, draining the balance within minutes.
A secondary variant offers a 'double miles transfer' partnership bonus — 'Transfer your SkyMiles to [partner airline] at a 2:1 rate this weekend.' This directs victims to a fake partner-transfer page that captures both Delta and the supposed partner programme login credentials.
Common red flags
- Email arrives from any domain other than '@delta.com'
- A redemption offer quotes a per-mile rate or award price significantly better than what Delta normally offers
- You are asked to log in via an email link to access a time-sensitive offer rather than simply opening the Fly Delta app
- The 'partner transfer bonus' leads to a page that requests credentials for two programmes simultaneously
- No matching promotional offer appears in your real SkyMiles account when you log in directly
- The email includes a countdown timer — 'This offer expires in 6 hours'
How to protect yourself
- Access any SkyMiles redemption offer by opening the Fly Delta app or navigating directly to delta.com — never via an email link
- Award prices that seem too good to be true almost always are; verify against actual award availability on delta.com
- Enable two-step verification on your SkyMiles account through 'My Profile > Security' at delta.com
- If you logged in through a suspicious email link, change your Delta password immediately and review your recent activity
- Contact Delta SkyMiles customer service at 1-800-323-2323 if you see any unauthorised redemptions
- Check your linked Delta credit card for any associated fraudulent charges

Frequently asked questions
Does Delta send flash award sale emails?
Delta does send promotional emails from '@delta.com' addresses about flash award opportunities, but these direct you to log in at delta.com through the app — not through a unique embedded deep link requiring fresh credential entry.
How quickly can a scammer use stolen SkyMiles?
Very quickly. Scammers who access a SkyMiles account can redeem miles for e-gift cards or shopping rewards within minutes. Changing your password the moment you suspect compromise is critical.
What is the best way to monitor my SkyMiles account?
Enable email and push notifications for redemptions in the Fly Delta app settings. Any redemption you did not make will trigger an alert that lets you respond quickly.
