Pig-butchering fraud has reached Serbian-speaking audiences with increasing frequency as scam networks have invested in multilingual operations and localised scripts. Serbian residents are approached on Instagram, Viber — the most widely used messaging app in Serbia — and dating platforms by apparent investors or romantic interests who eventually guide them toward fraudulent crypto trading platforms.
The scams exploit Serbia's growing interest in financial self-sufficiency and cryptocurrency as an investment class, presenting the fraud as an accessible way to participate in global markets.
How this scam works on Serbia
An attractive profile contacts the victim on Viber or Instagram with a friendly opening message. Conversation develops naturally over days. Eventually the contact mentions exceptional trading returns and offers to share their method via a specific app or website.
The victim deposits funds, sees rapid gains on the platform dashboard, and makes a small test withdrawal. Encouraged, they deposit a larger sum. Withdrawal of the larger amount triggers compliance requirements, fees, and eventually total account freeze. The contact stops responding.
Some operations targeting Serbia have been run in Serbian, with localised customer-support scripts that make the fraud feel domestic and credible.

Are pig-butchering scripts available in Serbian?
Yes. Scam compound operations have produced Serbian-language scripts and some platforms now offer Serbian-language interfaces. The language is no longer a reliable indicator of legitimacy.
