Is a new Instagram follower who mentions investment a scammer?
A stranger who follows you, builds rapport, and then mentions a lucrative investment opportunity is almost certainly running a romance or pig-butchering investment scam.

Explanation
Fraudsters create polished Instagram profiles with lifestyle photos, build a small genuine-looking following, and then follow targets and begin friendly conversation. Over days or weeks they build rapport — discussing shared interests, complimenting you, appearing romantically or professionally interested. Eventually they mention how well they are doing financially thanks to a crypto or forex platform and offer to help you make the same returns. The platform is fraudulent. Initial small deposits appear to generate profits, but when you try to withdraw, fees are demanded and ultimately you cannot retrieve your money. This pattern is called pig butchering because scammers 'fatten' the victim's trust before taking everything.

Frequently asked questions
What if the person video-calls me and seems real?
AI deepfake tools and stolen video footage allow scammers to conduct convincing video calls. A video call alone is not sufficient proof of identity.
