Cash App is a frequent payment method requested by fake ticket sellers because of its immediate settlement and lack of buyer protection for peer-to-peer payments. Buyers seeking last-minute tickets to sold-out events are under time pressure and are more likely to accept the risk of an unprotected Cash App transaction than they would under calmer circumstances.
The combination of urgency, high demand, and an unfamiliar seller is a reliable recipe for ticket fraud. Once the Cash App transfer lands, the seller often produces a convincing-looking ticket before disappearing.
How this scam works on Cash App
A seller advertises tickets in a social media group or through a direct message and requests Cash App payment because they 'don't want platform fees.' After the payment, the seller sends a ticket via email or messaging app. The ticket either has an already-used QR code or is an outright forgery.
Some sellers complete the scam at scale — listing the same ticket to many buyers simultaneously and collecting Cash App payments from all of them before blocking everyone. Others target buyers the day before the event when there is no time to pursue a dispute.
Cash App personal payments have no buyer protection, and the $Cashtag used is typically abandoned immediately after the scam.

Frequently asked questions
What is the safest way to buy resale event tickets?
Use platforms that offer a buyer guarantee — typically the ticket is verified or replaced if it turns out to be invalid. Platforms that integrate directly with ticketing systems or venues provide the strongest protection. Avoid any seller who requests peer-to-peer payment apps and refuses managed checkout.
