Fake TikTok LIVE Subscription Renewal Phishing
Scammers send emails claiming a TikTok LIVE subscription or creator programme fee is due for renewal, directing users to a fake payment page that harvests card details and TikTok credentials.

Last reviewed: 7 June 2026
TikTok has expanded its monetisation features for creators, including LIVE subscriptions where followers can pay a monthly fee directly to a creator. This relatively new feature creates a plausible pretext for subscription-renewal phishing aimed at both creators and followers unfamiliar with exactly how billing works.
Recipients of fake renewal notices may genuinely be uncertain whether they subscribed to a creator's LIVE programme, especially if they interact with many creators. This uncertainty reduces the impulse to verify before clicking.
Some variants target creators rather than followers, claiming that a TikTok creator monetisation programme or LIVE feature requires an annual renewal payment — which is not how TikTok's creator monetisation actually operates.
How this scam works on the TikTok brand
TikTok does not charge creators a platform fee for access to LIVE or monetisation features — creators earn revenue, they do not pay subscription fees for TikTok's own tools. Followers who subscribe to a creator's LIVE receive their subscription renewal information within the TikTok app itself, and TikTok communicates billing via the registered app store (Apple App Store or Google Play) or via the TikTok app notification system.
Fake renewal emails mimic TikTok's brand identity and claim either that a follower's creator subscription is expiring or that a creator's access to TikTok LIVE is being auto-renewed at an inflated price. A 'Manage Subscription' button links to a non-tiktok.com domain collecting credentials and card details.
Mobile variants of this scam send push-style notifications from third-party apps or SMS to direct victims to fake payment pages, exploiting the fact that TikTok-related notifications are expected on mobile devices.

Frequently asked questions
Does TikTok charge creators a fee to access LIVE or monetisation features?
No. TikTok does not charge creators a subscription fee for access to features like TikTok LIVE or Creator Fund. Creators earn money through TikTok — they do not pay TikTok for the privilege. Any email claiming a creator fee is due is fraudulent.
Where are TikTok LIVE creator subscriptions billed?
Follower subscriptions to TikTok creators are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on the user's device. Billing is managed by those platforms, not directly by TikTok via email. If you have a subscription you want to cancel, do so through your device's app store subscription settings.
I received a charge on my card that I believe is linked to a fake TikTok renewal. What should I do?
Check your TikTok account within the app and your app store subscription history to verify whether any genuine TikTok billing occurred. If you cannot identify the charge as legitimate, contact your bank to dispute it and report the scam to your consumer protection agency.
