Fake Ledger Customer Support Scams
Scammers intercept Ledger users seeking help by posing as official support agents on social media and through fake phone lines. Ledger's real support is at support.ledger.com — no agent there will ever ask for your recovery phrase.

Hardware wallet users who experience device issues, firmware problems, or transaction errors often need guidance. Fake Ledger support scammers exploit this need by monitoring hardware-wallet communities on Reddit, Twitter, and Discord for users expressing frustration or confusion, then inserting themselves as helpful 'Ledger support representatives.'
The attack is effective because hardware wallet troubleshooting can be genuinely complex for less technical users, and a patient, knowledgeable-sounding 'agent' who walks them through steps builds trust quickly. The scammer's goal — obtaining the recovery seed — is only asked for near the end, after trust has been established through plausible-sounding preliminary steps.
Ledger's genuine support is ticket-based at support.ledger.com, supplemented by an extensive documentation library. Ledger does not proactively DM users on social media, and no Ledger support agent has any technical need for the 24-word recovery phrase — the device's security model means no support interaction should ever involve it.
How this scam works on the Ledger brand
A Ledger user posts on Twitter about a Ledger Live connection error. Within an hour, an account with 'Ledger Support' in the name and the official Ledger logo DMs them with a polite offer of assistance. The conversation proceeds through several genuine-seeming diagnostic steps. Eventually, the 'agent' concludes that a 'wallet resync' is needed and provides a link to a Ledger-branded form asking for the 24-word recovery phrase.
Phone-based variants are also common. A Google search for 'Ledger support number' may surface a fake phone listing. The caller claiming to be Ledger guides the user through installation of 'updated Ledger Live' from a malicious link, which captures the recovery phrase when the user attempts to restore the wallet during setup.
Ledger's genuine troubleshooting always involves the physical device and its buttons. Connection errors, firmware issues, and transaction problems are resolved by following documented steps at support.ledger.com. The recovery phrase is never part of any Ledger-directed support flow.
Common red flags

- A 'Ledger support number' found through a web search rather than at support.ledger.com
- A 'wallet resync' or 'device diagnostic' that requires your 24-word recovery phrase
- An offer to install updated Ledger Live from a link not on ledger.com
- A support interaction that eventually asks for any portion of the recovery phrase
- An agent who claims your recovery phrase is needed to verify your device is genuine

Frequently asked questions
Does Ledger have a phone support line?
Ledger's primary support is through the ticket system at support.ledger.com. Any phone number claiming to be Ledger support found through a web search is likely fraudulent — verify at support.ledger.com before calling any number.
Can Ledger support fix my device remotely?
No. Ledger's hardware wallet is a standalone device. Support cannot connect to it remotely. All device operations, including firmware updates, are performed locally through Ledger Live and the device's physical buttons.
A 'Ledger agent' is asking for my recovery phrase to verify my device. Should I provide it?
No. There is no legitimate Ledger support scenario requiring the recovery phrase. The device's authenticity is verified through a genuine check process done locally via Ledger Live — it does not involve the recovery phrase.
