Fake OpenSea Customer Support Scams
Criminals pose as OpenSea support agents on Discord, Twitter, and Telegram to trick NFT holders into connecting wallets or sharing information on drainer sites. OpenSea support operates only through support.opensea.io.

The NFT community's culture of open communication on Discord and Twitter has become a hunting ground for fake support scammers. Users who post about problems with an OpenSea listing, a stuck transaction, or a suspicious offer are immediately targeted by fake 'OpenSea Support' accounts that offer personalized assistance.
Fake OpenSea support interactions are calibrated to the NFT audience — the scammer speaks knowledgeably about OpenSea's features, token standards, and common issues. This apparent expertise builds trust. The conversation eventually steers toward a 'wallet verification' step or a 'support form' that involves connecting the wallet or entering the seed phrase.
OpenSea's genuine support is provided through a help center and ticketing system at support.opensea.io. OpenSea does not have a live agent presence in general Discord servers or on Twitter/X that DMs users unsolicited. Any unprompted DM from a person claiming to be OpenSea support should be treated as a social engineering attempt.
How this scam works on the OpenSea brand
A user posts in a popular NFT Discord that they cannot list an NFT on OpenSea. A fake 'OpenSea Support' account with the OpenSea logo DMs them within minutes, offering to help. After some dialogue, the 'agent' provides a link to an 'OpenSea wallet diagnostics' page and asks the user to connect their wallet to diagnose the issue. Connecting submits a drainer approval.
On Twitter/X, a user @mentions OpenSea about a stolen NFT. A fake account with a name like @OpenSea_Support_ replies publicly and then DMs with a 'support form' that requests the MetaMask seed phrase for 'account recovery.'
OpenSea's legitimate workflow for wallet issues, listing problems, and report submissions is entirely handled through support.opensea.io without any wallet connection for support purposes. Genuine support tickets may involve an agent reviewing on-chain information, but they never require the user to connect a wallet to a support portal or share a seed phrase.
Common red flags
- An OpenSea support account that DMs you after you post about a problem on Discord or Twitter
- A 'wallet diagnostics' or 'OpenSea support form' link outside support.opensea.io
- A support interaction that requires connecting your wallet for troubleshooting purposes
- A request for your MetaMask seed phrase to 'recover' a stolen NFT or fix an account issue
- A support account with 'OpenSea' in the name but no verified badge, recent creation date, or low follower count
- A 'support fee' or gas payment requested as part of the resolution process
How to protect yourself
- Use support.opensea.io for all OpenSea support needs — submit a ticket rather than seeking help via DM
- Treat any unsolicited DM from 'OpenSea Support' as a scam regardless of the profile's appearance
- Never connect your wallet or enter a seed phrase as part of a support process
- Verify OpenSea's official social accounts through opensea.io before engaging with any support handle
- Report impersonating accounts to OpenSea at support.opensea.io and to the platform directly
How to report it
- Report fake support accounts to OpenSea at support.opensea.io
- Report impersonating accounts to Twitter/X, Discord, or the relevant platform
- Report to IC3.gov (US) or Action Fraud (UK) if assets were stolen
- Alert the NFT community in the server or thread where the scammer appeared
Frequently asked questions
Does OpenSea have live chat or Discord support agents?
OpenSea's official support is through the ticketing system at support.opensea.io. OpenSea does not maintain a live agent presence that DMs users unsolicited on Discord or Twitter. Any DM from 'OpenSea Support' should be verified through opensea.io before engaging.
Can connecting my wallet to an OpenSea support page cause harm?
Yes. If the 'support page' is actually a drainer site, connecting your wallet can trigger a malicious approval transaction. Never connect your wallet to a page you arrived at via a DM claiming to be support.
My NFT was stolen and a 'support agent' offered to help recover it for a fee. Is this legitimate?
No. Blockchain transactions are irreversible. No support agent — from OpenSea or any other platform — can recover transferred NFTs. Anyone offering to recover stolen NFTs for a fee is running a secondary fraud.
