Vietnam's exploding e-commerce delivery sector — with millions of parcels shipped daily through GHN (Giao Hang Nhanh), GHTK, Vietnam Post, J&T Express, and Ninja Van — has created an enormous attack surface for fake delivery text fraud. Vietnamese consumers awaiting online orders are particularly susceptible to urgent delivery notifications.
Fraudsters send Zalo and SMS messages with links to phishing pages or APK files designed to steal banking credentials for Vietnamese financial apps.
How this scam works on Vietnam
A victim receives a Zalo message or SMS claiming their GHN or Vietnam Post shipment requires address confirmation or a small customs payment before delivery can proceed. The link leads to a fake courier site asking for banking login details or prompts installation of a malicious app.
A growing variant targets Shopee Vietnam and TikTok Shop buyers: fake order dispatch notifications sent via Zalo Official Account impostors inform the buyer of a delivery issue and request clicking through to confirm details — harvesting payment credentials in the process.
Vietnam's high rates of banking trojans on Android devices mean that clicking a malicious delivery link can silently install malware that steals internet banking credentials from all installed financial apps.
Common red flags
- Zalo or SMS delivery notification about a parcel you do not recognize
- Link domain does not match the official courier site (e.g., ghn.vn, vnpost.vn)
- Request to install an APK from a link rather than from the app store
- Request for banking login details or card numbers to 'verify delivery address'
- Small VND fee requested via VNPay or bank link before delivery will proceed
How to protect yourself
- Track parcels through the official courier app or website only, not SMS or Zalo links
- Never install APK files sent via message links
- Enable two-factor authentication on all Vietnamese banking apps
- Keep Android OS and banking apps updated to receive security patches
- Report suspicious Zalo Official Accounts through Zalo's reporting function
How to report it
- Report to NCSC at vncert.vn
- File phishing reports at canhbaolua.vn
- Report to the platform impersonated (GHN, Vietnam Post) through their official customer service
