Fake Google Customer Service Chatbot Scam
Fraudulent websites deploy chat widgets claiming to be 'Google Support,' steering users who search for help with Google accounts, Workspace, or Play billing into surrendering credentials or making payments.

Google provides official support for consumers at support.google.com and for Workspace customers at support.google.com/a. Genuine Google support is initiated by the user after signing in — Google does not proactively pop up chat windows on third-party support sites, nor does it contact users through unofficial chatbot platforms.
Because Google's product suite is enormous — covering Gmail, Drive, Photos, Play, Workspace, Ads, and more — there is a wide surface for fake support sites to target. A person having trouble with Gmail billing, a suspended Google Ads account, or a locked Workspace admin panel may search urgently for help and stumble across a fraudulent site.
The fake chatbots are often run by the same operations behind tech support scam phone lines, using chat as a lower-friction entry point before escalating to voice calls.
How this scam works on the Google brand
A user searching 'Google Workspace support chat' or 'Google Play refund help' clicks a sponsored link leading to a professional-looking site at google-workspace-support.org. A chat widget opens immediately. The 'agent' establishes rapport and then asks for the user's Google account email and, after a pause, their password 'to look up the account.'
Alternatively, the bot provides a phone number for 'escalated support,' and the user is connected to a voice agent who convinces them to install remote-access software. The agent navigates to the user's banking portal claiming to 'check for fraudulent charges,' ultimately draining funds.
Google Ads customers are targeted with a variant claiming their ad account has an unpaid balance that must be settled to avoid campaign suspension — with payment demanded via wire transfer or gift card.
Common red flags
- Google support chat is initiated by signing in at support.google.com — not by a pop-up on a third-party site.
- Any support agent requesting your Google account password in chat is a fraudster — Google support agents never need it.
- A support number provided via a chat widget or search result that is not on support.google.com is almost certainly fake.
- Requests to install remote-access software (AnyDesk, TeamViewer) to resolve a Google account issue.
- Demands for payment via gift card, wire transfer, or cryptocurrency to resolve an account balance.
- The chat engages you immediately without you having signed in or provided any account context.
How to protect yourself
- Reach Google support only through support.google.com after signing in to your Google account.
- Google Workspace admins can contact support through the Google Admin Console at admin.google.com > Support.
- Never provide your Google account password to any support agent via chat, email, or phone.
- If you gave account access via remote software, disconnect the internet immediately, change your Google password on another device, and review account activity at myaccount.google.com.

Frequently asked questions
Does Google have a live chat support option for regular users?
Google offers live chat and phone support primarily for Workspace, Google Ads, and Google Fi customers. For consumer products like Gmail and Google Photos, support is mainly self-service through support.google.com. All official support is accessed after signing in, not via unsolicited chat pop-ups.
How do I contact real Google support for a suspended Google Ads account?
Sign in to your Google Ads account at ads.google.com, click the question mark icon, and select 'Contact us.' Genuine support options including chat and phone will appear based on your account type.
I installed AnyDesk for a fake Google support agent — what should I do?
Uninstall AnyDesk immediately (or revoke the session). Change your Google account password and any other passwords entered while the session was active. Check your Gmail for forwarding rules that the attacker may have set. Contact your bank if any financial accounts were accessed.
