Revolut's account recovery and support processes rely heavily on phone-number-based identity verification. This makes Revolut chatbot scams particularly dangerous: the scammer does not need a traditional username and password — they need only the victim's phone number and the OTP that the victim unknowingly forwards through the fake chat.
Fake Revolut support sites proliferate in paid search results whenever users search for 'Revolut customer service UK' or 'Revolut blocked account help.' The chat interface mimics Revolut's clean design and the scripted agent demonstrates familiarity with Revolut's real product features to build trust rapidly.
The attack is completed in under two minutes in practiced hands — phone number collected, real Revolut login triggered, code relayed, account compromised — before the victim has even closed the chat tab.
How this scam works on the Revolut brand
The user lands on a fake Revolut support page after clicking a search ad. The chat agent greets them by name (guessed or referenced from public social profiles) and asks about the account issue. After establishing rapport, the agent says: 'I can look up your account if you provide your registered mobile number.'
Once the number is provided, the scammer simultaneously triggers a Revolut login on the real platform. Revolut sends the user a verification code. The chat then says: 'A verification code has been sent to your device to confirm your identity — please enter it here to continue.' The victim enters the code, completing the scammer's login on the real Revolut platform.
Within the Revolut session, the scammer adds a new beneficiary, initiates an outgoing payment, and may update the registered phone number to prevent the victim from recovering the account quickly.
Common red flags
- The support site appeared in a paid search ad rather than within the Revolut app or revolut.com.
- The URL is not revolut.com.
- The agent asks for your mobile phone number to 'look up your account.'
- A Revolut verification code arrives on your phone while you are in the support chat.
- The agent asks you to enter the verification code in the chat.
- Your real Revolut app shows a new session or an outgoing payment you did not initiate.
- The chat agent cannot confirm any specific account detail despite claiming to have pulled up your account.
How to protect yourself
- Access Revolut support only through the in-app chat (Profile > Help) — never through search engine results.
- Know that Revolut support working inside an authenticated session never asks for a phone-based OTP.
- Do not enter any code from your phone into a webpage outside the official Revolut app.
- Check the Revolut app for suspicious login sessions in Settings > Privacy and Security > Active Sessions.
- Enable biometric app lock on Revolut so that even with login credentials the scammer faces another barrier.
How to report it
- Report phishing to [email protected].
- Report account compromise through the in-app chat: Profile > Help.
- Report to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk.
- Report to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- File with ic3.gov if funds were transferred.
Frequently asked questions
Does the real Revolut support chat ask for an OTP?
The real Revolut in-app chat works within an already-authenticated session — it does not need to ask for a code because you are already logged in. Any chat asking for a verification code has not authenticated you properly.
How do I find the Revolut in-app support chat?
Open the Revolut app, tap the Profile icon in the top left, then select Help. The chat is within your authenticated app session.
Can I end an active session someone else has opened on my account?
Yes. Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Active Sessions in the Revolut app. You can terminate any session you do not recognise. Do this immediately if you suspect a chatbot scam has compromised your login.
