Kraken's long-standing reputation and active user base make it an attractive brand for fake airdrop scammers. Fraudulent sites announce a 'Kraken Exchange Token' or 'KRK airdrop' — using Kraken's signature dark blue and white branding — and direct users from social media posts, Reddit threads, and Discord servers to a claim portal.
The sites typically promise token allocations proportional to a user's Kraken trading history, creating a credible-sounding eligibility mechanism. Users are asked to 'verify ownership' of their Kraken account by connecting their external Web3 wallet, even though Kraken is a centralized exchange that has no technical relationship with users' self-custody wallets.
Kraken has not issued a publicly tradeable exchange token airdrop through an external claim portal. Any announcement to the contrary should be verified directly at kraken.com/news before taking any action.
How this scam works on the Kraken brand
The fake claim site presents an eligibility calculator that accepts a wallet address and returns a 'personalized' token allocation — the number is randomly generated but looks plausible. A 'Claim Now' button triggers a wallet connection popup, after which the site presents a token-approval transaction for a large amount of the victim's existing assets.
Some variants display a fake Kraken login screen first to harvest Kraken credentials, then proceed to the wallet connection step. The combined credential-and-wallet attack gives the scammer both exchange account access and wallet approval authority simultaneously.
Legitimate Kraken communications about new features or token listings are published at blog.kraken.com and linked from the official Kraken app. Kraken does not require external wallet connections for any account reward or promotional activity.
Common red flags
- Site URL is not kraken.com — common fakes include kraken-airdrop.net, krakentokenclaim.io
- Promises a 'KRK token' or named Kraken exchange token not listed on kraken.com or major exchanges
- Requires connecting an external wallet to verify a centralized exchange account — technically unnecessary for a custodial platform
- Prompts a Kraken login on a non-kraken.com domain followed immediately by a wallet connection request
- Announced only via social media or messaging apps, not via kraken.com's official blog or news section
- Countdown timer creates urgency to act before verifying the claim
How to protect yourself
- Verify any Kraken promotion by checking blog.kraken.com or the in-app notifications section — do not trust social media alone
- Never enter your Kraken login credentials on any site that is not exactly kraken.com
- Remember that centralized exchanges like Kraken have no technical need for your external self-custody wallet to reward your account
- Use a browser extension that flags known phishing sites (MetaMask, Brave Browser, or similar)
- Revoke any wallet approvals you may have accidentally granted via revoke.cash
How to report it

- Submit the URL to PhishTank at phishtank.org and Google Safe Browsing
- File a report with your national consumer protection body or cybercrime unit
- Alert the Kraken community on reddit.com/r/Kraken so other users can avoid the scam
Frequently asked questions
Has Kraken ever issued its own exchange token?
As of this writing, Kraken does not have a publicly distributed exchange token airdrop campaign. Any site claiming otherwise should be verified only through kraken.com's official channels.
Why would a scam site ask me to log into my Kraken account first?
To harvest your Kraken credentials. The fake login captures your username and password, which the attacker then uses to access your real Kraken account separately while simultaneously draining your self-custody wallet.
