Telegram's public channel and group infrastructure allows reshipping scam operators to broadcast fake job advertisements to thousands of users simultaneously. Channels styled as job boards or freight-forwarding agencies post daily listings for 'package handling agents', complete with professional logos and salary claims.
Candidates who apply are onboarded via Telegram messages and quickly asked to receive packages at home, bypassing the scrutiny a conventional hiring process would involve. The casual, chat-based onboarding masks the criminal nature of the role.
How this scam works on Telegram
A Telegram channel posts a vacancy for a 'regional package coordinator' role. Interested users DM the channel admin, who responds with a detailed job description, a fake contract PDF, and instructions to provide a home delivery address. The first shipment arrives quickly — establishing the routine — and the victim is paid a small amount to reinforce the employment fiction.
Subsequent shipments may contain higher-value goods or cash proceeds from other scams. The Telegram admin becomes increasingly difficult to reach as the scheme matures, and eventually disappears entirely once the fraudulent purchasing trail leads investigators to the victim's address.
Some operators run the entire process through a Telegram bot, automating the application, contract issuance, and address collection steps without human intervention on the scammer's side.
